A question to enter the research
Shaping light with gain and loss
How does amplification or absorption reshape a lattice mode?
It offers another design parameter for controlling localization.
In the studied lattices, non-Hermitian particle-hole symmetry creates a flat real spectrum. Stronger gain/loss increasingly localizes an edge-defect mode. Zero is measured relative to a reference frequency.
Can a mode retain its reference frequency without global symmetry?
This suggests another route to frequency-stable photonic devices.
Coupling a boundary zero mode to the bulk under specific non-Hermitian conditions yields a zero mode robust to bulk disorder. The boundary and coupling conditions must remain satisfied.
