Prosperity Road · Economic Decisions — Bingkun Qi

Respond to a town in difficulty: choose a policy, observe prices, supply and residents’ reactions, then try another approach.

About this project

If prices fall, will residents necessarily be able to buy enough bread? I turned questions like this into a town simulation where players can try policies and observe the consequences.

The game begins with a situation, a decision and a response from the world. Supply-and-demand diagrams, accounts and same-quarter comparisons are available when the player wants more detail. Smokestacks and the River extends the approach to trade-offs between production and environmental damage.

Features and use cases

  • Six quarters of Bread Crisis: harvest shocks, prices and access to food
  • Four quarters of Smokestacks and the River: production, pollution taxes and emissions limits
  • Try alternative policies under the same quarterly conditions without rewriting the campaign
  • Explore local scenes and understand different perspectives through contextual dialogue
  • Save progress in the browser and download a campaign record

Standalone game

Make a decision. See how the town responds.

The learning question

A lower posted price does not automatically mean more adequate supply. Prices, purchases and available resources need to be considered together.

How the game works

Successive quarters connect market changes, character responses and resource constraints to the player’s decisions.

How comparisons work

A same-quarter trial preserves the original environment and starting resources. It lets players compare another policy without changing their campaign.

Read the situation

Review the current event, stocks and treasury, then hear the different concerns of residents and producers.

Choose a policy

Make a decision within the resource constraints. Observe its effects on prices, supply, access to food or environmental damage.

Try another approach

Compare an alternative under the same quarterly conditions, then continue. Review the automatically compiled campaign record at the end.
